Packing Essentials

1
Earth-Toned Clothing
Wear khaki, olive green, or brown shades to blend into the forest environment; avoid bright colors like red or white which can distract or startle wildlife.
2
Dust Protection
A scarf, buff, or bandana is essential to protect your face and mouth from the fine dust kicked up by safari jeeps on the forest tracks.
3
Seasonal Layers
Heavy woolens and windcheaters for winter morning safaris (which can be freezing in open jeeps), and light, breathable cottons for the summer heat.
4
Optical Gear
A pair of binoculars for birdwatching and a camera with a telephoto lens (300mm+) to capture clear shots of predators from a safe distance.
5
Sun & Skin Protection
Wide-brimmed hats, polarized sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen to guard against the harsh sun during the 3.5-hour open-air safari.
6
Mandatory Identification
The original physical copy of the ID proof (Aadhaar, Passport, or DL) used during the permit booking process is required at the entry gate.

Safety Considerations

1
Stay Inside the Vehicle
It is strictly forbidden and dangerous to step out of the Jeep inside the reserve, except at designated fenced areas or forest rest houses.
2
Maintain Silence
Loud noises can startle wild animals, especially elephants and tigers, leading to unpredictable behavior; keep conversations at a whisper during sightings.
3
Distance from Wildlife
Always follow the guide's instructions to maintain a minimum distance of 30 meters from elephants and other large mammals to avoid aggressive encounters.
4
No Feeding or Littering
Feeding wild animals is a punishable offense that disrupts their natural diet. Carry all trash back to the resort to keep the habitat pristine.
5
Adhere to Track Routes
The driver must stay on the designated forest tracks; off-roading is prohibited as it destroys the undergrowth and disturbs the wildlife's territory.
6
Flash Photography Prohibited
The use of flash is strictly banned as it can blind or irritate animals. Ensure your camera's flash is turned off before entering the park.

Best Time to Visit

Ideal seasons and weather conditions

1
Season Window
The Bijrani Zone is officially open for tourism from October 15 to June 30 annually. It remains strictly closed during the monsoon season (July to mid-October) to protect the forest tracks and ensure visitor safety.
2
Optimal Period
Mid-November to April is the most comfortable period for travelers. The weather is pleasant with clear skies, making it ideal for long safari drives without the intense summer heat or monsoon humidity.
3
Peak Wildlife Activity
Winter months (November to February) are the peak time for birdwatching and general wildlife activity. For tiger enthusiasts, the 'hot' months of May and June are prime, as predators frequently visit water holes.
4
Photography Window
March to May offers the best lighting and thinned-out vegetation, which significantly improves visibility for capturing high-quality photographs of the Royal Bengal Tiger and Asian Elephants.

Physical Requirements

1
Difficulty Level
Categorized as Easy to Moderate; while the safari is conducted in a vehicle, the bumpy forest terrain requires basic physical resilience for 3-4 hours of travel.
2
Health Conditions
Not recommended for individuals with severe back or neck issues due to the jerky movements of the 4x4 Jeep on unpaved jungle tracks.
3
Dust Sensitivity
Participants with asthma or respiratory allergies should take precautions, as the open-top Gypsies are exposed to significant dust during the dry season.
4
Sun & Heat Endurance
The ability to withstand direct sunlight and high temperatures is necessary, especially during the afternoon safaris in the summer months.

How to Reach

1
By Air
The nearest domestic airport is Pantnagar (PGU), approximately 85 km from Ramnagar, with regular flights from Delhi. Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi (260 km) is the closest international gateway. Taxis are readily available from both airports to reach your resort.
2
By Rail
Ramnagar Railway Station (RMR) is the main railhead, located just 2–5 km from the Bijrani entry gate. It is well-connected to Delhi, Lucknow, and Varanasi. Overnight trains like the Ranikhet Express are the most convenient way to reach the town by early morning.
3
By Road
Ramnagar is easily accessible via NH9 and NH309. The drive from Delhi takes about 6 hours via Hapur and Moradabad. Regular AC and non-AC buses operate from ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi, directly to the Ramnagar bus stand.
4
Local Access to Bijrani
Entry to the Bijrani Zone is exclusively through the Amdanda Gate, situated only 2 km from Ramnagar city center. Once you cross the gate, a 5 km drive through a buffer forest leads you to the core safari area of the zone.

FAQ

Everything you need to know before booking

While Dhikala is the largest zone with vast grasslands (Chaurs), Bijrani is preferred for its mix of dense Sal forests and meadows. Both offer high tiger sighting probabilities (~90%), but Bijrani is more accessible for day visitors using Jeep safaris, whereas Dhikala day visits are primarily restricted to Canter safaris.

No. To protect the wildlife and minimize ecological disturbance, all safaris operate strictly during daylight hours. Morning shifts typically start at 6:00 AM and evening shifts end by 6:30 PM (varying slightly by season).

All safari vehicles must maintain a safe distance (minimum 30m) from elephant herds. Naturalist guides are trained in animal behavior and follow prescribed forest tracks. In case of an encounter, engines are often turned off to allow the herd to pass peacefully.

The Forest Department occasionally permits the use of specific bird hides for a fee (approx. ₹2,000/day). However, mobile hides or stepping out of vehicles to set up photography equipment is strictly prohibited to prevent habitat fragmentation and ensure visitor safety.

No. There is no Wi-Fi or television at the Bijrani Forest Rest House to maintain its raw, wilderness appeal. Mobile network connectivity is also extremely limited or non-existent once you enter the core forest area; the last reliable signal is usually at the Amdanda Gate.
